Protecting Our Staff Members and Patients

In its continued effort in prioritizing the health and well-being of employees and our patients, Eye Surgery Center of San Francisco today announced that effective immediately, we will be requiring all individuals to wear facial coverings upon entrance to our facility.

We are committed to playing a constructive role in supporting health and government officials as they work to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

  • Enhanced cleaning measures: We are committed to caring for the health and well-being of its employees and customers and playing a constructive role in supporting local health officials and government leaders. We will continue to observe elevated cleaning and sanitizing protocols that meet or exceed public health guidelines and can help to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
  • Additional precautions: We are also taking precautio­­ns for every staff members that works in our facility. Prior to beginning every shift, all staff complete a pre-check, including safety precautions such as taking their temperature, to ensure they are ready and able to work. All staff members are also required to wear facial coverings during their shifts and continue to frequently wash their hands. They also have the option to wear gloves or face shields.
  • Safety Protocols: We respectfully require patients to follow social distancing and safety protocols recommended by public health officials, including wearing a facial covering when visiting our facility. It is our responsibility to protect our employees and comply with local public health mandates. As such, our staff have the right and responsibility to refuse service to any individuals who are not wearing facial coverings. As we continue to ensure the health and well-being of our staff and patients, we have temporarily closed our restrooms to the public, with exceptions made for uniformed emergency responders and those covered by Ally’s law.

Extending the Temporary Shutdown

As we look ahead, your safety and well-being remain our top priority and we will continue to make proactive decisions, based on the facts and science, to ensure you feel truly supported and cared for in the best way we can. As the situation with COVID-19 evolves, the Executive Committee has made the decision to extend the temporary shutdown through May 31, 2020.

We will continue to stay close to our partners and local health officials, and we are optimistic this will be a temporary situation. Guided by our Mission Statement and Core Values, and a commitment to one another as partners and to the patients we serve, we will continue to communicate with transparency and act courageously and responsibly to ensure the health and well-being of our employees, partners and our valued patients.

COVID-19 Temporary Closures

The Executive Committee has made the decision to implement a temporary shutdown and cancel all elective cases beginning Tuesday March 17, 2020 through, at least, Friday March 27, 2020. We will continue to reassess the recommendations from the Surgeon General, CDC, SFDPH and the AAO to determine if further closure is warranted.

Outlined Precautionary Steps During COVID-19 Outbreak

For the last few weeks, Eye Surgery Center of San Francisco has been preparing for the possible scenarios related to COVID-19 and ensuring the right plans and resources are in place, defined principally by guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local public health authorities, including increased cleaning and sanitizing for our facility to help prevent the spread.

As a leading ambulatory surgery center in the Bay Area, we’ve been closely monitoring the dynamic situation of COVID-19, along with the rest of the world.

First and foremost, the health and well-being of our staff and partners remains top of mind and our highest priority, and we will continue to act thoughtfully and courageously despite the disruption and uncertainty COVID-19 brings to our daily lives.
